Onions and Garlic – Short funny stories in English
Onions and Garlic
Long ago, there were two brothers. Their names were Joshua and Eli. They lived on a small farm. They were very poor.
Joshua worked hard every day. Eli was lazy. He did not like working.
One day, Joshua heard about a far-away country. He learned that people there did not have onions. Joshua had an idea.
“If I take onions there, I can sell them for a lot of money,” he thought.
Joshua went to the country. He went to see the king. He told the king about onions.
The king was very interested. He asked Joshua to make some food with onions.
That evening, the king and his friends ate the food. They liked it very much.
“This is very good!” said the king.
The king gave Joshua a lot of diamonds for the onions.
Joshua was very happy. He went home with a big wagon full of diamonds.
Joshua shared some of his money with Eli. But Eli was jealous.
“Does that country have garlic?” Eli asked.
“No, they don’t,” said Joshua.
Eli had an idea.
“If onions can make Joshua rich, garlic can make me rich too!” he thought.
So Eli went to the king. He gave the king some garlic.
The king and his friends ate food with garlic. They liked it very much.
“This is wonderful!” said the king.
The king wanted to give Eli something valuable for the garlic.
